In this forecast period, daily chances for showers and storms stay low while temperatures fly high as a summery high pressure ridge builds and delivers a sun and south breeze combination to the Cape Fear Region. Forecast highs for Friday, the weekend, and next week will have a higher baseline than average for mid-May:

- mainly middle 80s for beaches, barrier islands, and Intracoastal Waterway communities

- upper 80s and lower 90s for the Highway 17 corridor, including the Wilmington Metro Area

- mainly lower to possibly, at times, middle 90s for communities farther inland
