WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Preliminary work has begun on long-awaited repairs to the bulkhead in the Riverfront Park/Diligence area in downtown Wilmington.
Construction will begin in the next few days, and the project is expected to be completed in about 12 months.
Work will begin in Riverfront Park in front of the Federal Courthouse before moving north toward Princess Street and the Diligence area.
Much of Riverfront Park will closed while work is under way, but Water Street will remain open with occasional temporary closures.
Once this work is completed next year, the city will begin the next phase of Riverfront Park improvements, which will include re-installing the brick street, an event plaza, a decorative fountain, landscaping and other park amenities.
