First Alert Forecast: a brief break from humidity through midweek
Expect cool 50s Wednesday morning with north breezes and low humidity.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Good Tuesday evening to you and thanks for checking into your First Alert Forecast for the Cape Fear Region! We’re about to enter the third week of May and, this time of year, breaks in humidity become increasingly rare. And, yes, late this week and into this weekend, a traditionally muggy / warm / hot / isolated storm forecast returns. But for now, take a glance at these main points to help you plan your week...

- Cool mornings and comfortable afternoons... morning temperatures Wednesday will be near 50 in most backyards and afternoon highs will climb into the middle and upper 70s. A gradual warming trend will take place heading into Thursday as 80s make a comeback.

- Favorable beach forecast... if your plans take you to area beaches expect a high UV index so apply and re-apply sunscreen! Also the rip current risk is low but always be mindful when swimming close to jetties and piers.

- Summer-like days waiting in the wings... humidity and temperatures will be on the rise as the week progresses. Afternoon highs will soar in the middle and upper 80s and low will mainly be in the middle and upper 60s.
