After five months of repairs, dog rescue group is back in business

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Monty’s Home, a non-profit dog rescue group, is once again able to pull dogs from local shelters.

Heavy winds last December destroyed the kennels they use at the Pender Correctional Institution.

That’s where the Pawsitive Partners Prison program is housed. In the program, an inmate is paired with a dog and trains it to learn basic commands.

When the dog graduates from the program, it can be adopted to a loving family.

Thanks to generous donations, the kennels re-opened last week at the Burgaw location and welcomed its first group of rescues in 2019.

Each group has a name. This group’s name is celebration.

You can see one of the dogs Friday during Pet of the Week in the 6 a.m. hour of WECT’s Carolina in the Morning.
