WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Drivers crossing the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge are turning to social media, posting they are having more trouble than normal maintaining control while crossing the bridge.

The Department of Transportation has been doing a lot of work on the bridge lately, which includes replacing the metal grid deck. Since the work started, drivers say they feel their vehicles "sliding" around.

DOT said the deck has metal studs that help create more friction when it rains, but the new ones have yet to settle so drivers are likely feeling that difference.

Drivers should remember to maintain the 45 mph speed limit as that should help with the feeling of losing control.

The bridge will be closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday until May 24.
