Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office investigating robbery, assault at convenience store

LELAND, NC (WECT) - The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery Saturday night at the Kicking Mule Beverage Barn in Leland.

According to a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office, Melissa Meyer was arrested after she allegedly assaulted Terri Ann Weary, a store employee, with a baton and an airsoft gun, causing serious injury. The spokesperson said Meyer stole $320 from the Kicking Mule as well.

The incident happened around 6:50 Saturday night at 1712 Fletcher Road North East. According to the arrest warrant, Meyer restrained Weary while she robbed the store.

The arrest warrant said Meyer also damaged a Brunswick County Sheriffs Office camera, causing at least $200 in damage. It is unclear how she damaged the camera.

Weary was brought to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Meyer is charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, second degree kidnapping and injury to personal property. She is being held in the Brunswick County Jail under $180,500 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning at 9:30.
