NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A planned power outage by Duke Energy and the NCDOT will affect hundreds of residents in northern New Hanover County Tuesday night.
A spokesperson for the utility company said the outage will take place in the Bayshore Drive-Market Street area and last from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday. The outage will affect approximately 650 people.
According to a spokeswoman for the NCDOT, distribution power lines will be relocated to allow for the upcoming construction of the intersection at Bayshore Drive and Market Street, as well as to accommodate widening and drainage improvements associated with the Market Street project.
As part of the $6.5 million project, crews will install medians, concrete islands and turn lanes to make what the DOT calls a “superstreet.”
Bayshore Drive falls within the 2.3-mile construction zone on Market Street, between Lendire Road and Mendenhall Drive, that will have intermittent, nightly lane closures until late 2022.
The DOT says nearly 60,000 cars travel on the affected stretch of Market Street each day.
