Pedestrian hit by car, hospitalized with serious injuries
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A 17-year-old girl from Clayton suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a vehicle on South College Road early Sunday morning, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
A spokesperson with the police department said the girl, who has not been identified, and a group of friends were attempting to cross nine lanes of traffic around 2:20 a.m. A driver traveling in the southbound lane in the 700 block of South College Road then hit her, the spokesperson said. The group was not in a crosswalk.
Police identified the driver as Taquan Marquse Barrett, 21, and charged him with driving with a revoked license. The victim was brought to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where she has serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Police are still investigating the incident.
