WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Break a sweat and have some fun at Dancin’ in the Park.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina are sponsoring the first 2019 series of Dancin’ in the Park. It’s a free 8-week outdoor fitness celebration open to all ages and fitness abilities.
“ We saw a need in the community for access to activity and a way, a fun way, to do physical activity so we thought what would be better than actually dancing?" said Marissa Byrant, the Health Equity Outreach Coordinator at NHRMC. "Another reason why we decided to host it at Portia Hines because we know how important this park is to the community and we support improvements to the park such as lighting, water, restrooms, and we wanted to bring some visibility to it.”
The locally organized health initiative hopes to promote not only physical health and activity, but community relationships as well.
“It’s lots of fun and a great way to get up and moving on Saturday mornings," said Byrant.
Dancin’ in the Park is each Saturday between April 6 and May 25, weather permitting. It’s from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. each week at Portia Hines park located at 400 N. 10th Street in Wilmington.
The event will showcase dance styles like Zumba, line dancing, hip-hop, and more taught by skilled fitness instructors that will help keep attendees smiling and moving at their own pace the entire time.
