WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - In cooperation with the Veterans Experience Action Center, the New Hanover and Pender District Attorney’s Office will hold a Veterans Amnesty Day on Friday, April 26.
Current and former U.S. military members with pending non-violent misdemeanors, traffic citations or other minor matters in New Hanover or Pender County are eligible to participate.
“In recognition that military service also impacts family members, military spouses are also welcome to have their cases resolved on the Veteran’s Amnesty Day,” a news release from the District Attorney’s Office states.
The event will take place at the New Hanover County Courthouse from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Pre-registration is recommended, but veterans also will be welcomed on a walk-in basis. To participate, veterans will need to present their DD-214 or veterans identification card at the courthouse.
To pre-register, contact Paige Jackson at 910-772-6937 or email Paige.A.Jackson@nccourts.org.
“This event gives us an opportunity to serve the citizens of New Hanover and Pender Counties who have honorably served our country," said District Attorney Ben David. "I am happy to collaborate with several courthouse and community agencies to resolve these outstanding cases for our veterans. It is my hope that this relief will remove barriers to housing, employment, and other opportunities that may face our veterans.”
