Police investigating third shooting in Wilmington in two days

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A third shooting in Wilmington in two days happened Sunday afternoon, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Police charged Quaneik Allen, 20, with assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. The shooting happened in the Houston Moore housing complex near 15th and Greenfield streets around 12:20 p.m., according to police.

Police say the man shot is in stable condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Police responded to the scene after a ShotSpotter notification. Officers were told the man was already at the hospital. Witnesses also said the shooting occurred after the man shot was seen assaulting a pregnant woman.

Witnesses told police Allen confronted the man, a fight started and Allen allegedly shot the man.

Allen was arrested a short time later. Police said the pregnant woman was taken to the hospital. There is no word on her condition.

The shooting is still under investigation.

Police are also still investigating two other shootings that happened Saturday. One occurred shortly before 1 a.m. in the 600 block of S. 13th Street, while the other shooting happened in the 200 block of S. 13th Street near Ann Street shortly before 11 a.m.

The two victims in that shooting have non-life-threatening injuries.

There are no suspects named in the shootings that happened Saturday.

The Wilmington Police Department said they do not believe the shootings are related at this time.
