WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The N.C. State Highway Patrol has identified a motorcyclist killed after crashing during a chase with troopers last week.
Sgt. Michael Baker with the North Carolina Highway Patrol says officials tried to stop Craig Scott Mason, 49, of Castle Hayne, for speeding on U.S. 74 around 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 but the motorcyclist wouldn’t pull over.
During the pursuit, Mason turned on to Kerr Avenue, where there was ongoing road work. The trooper stopped the chase when Mason drove his motorcycle on the wrong side of the road, Baker said.
Shortly after the chase ended, Mason struck a piece of equipment left in a closed lane and died as a result of the crash.
