First Alert Forecast: Rain chances, temperatures grow through the weekend
The latest from your First Alert Weather Team (Source: WECT)

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Good Saturday morning to you! Today’s the big Get Fit with 6 Race and Wellness Expo, and while the forecast will be cloudy and cold, race conditions will feature low rain chances. That said, you’ll still want to layer up as you head out as a cold and streaky low pressure system will bring chances for precipitation over the weekend: 30% Saturday and 70% Sunday. Temperatures - initially in the 30s - will only claw their way to afternoon highs in the 40s. Winds will remain nippy out of the northeast with wind speeds around 10 mph. What’s good about this system is what it won’t be:

- It won’t bring flooding. Total rainfall by the end of the weekend will be on the order of a few manageable hundredths or tenths of an inch and that shouldn’t be enough to trigger any flooding.

- It won’t bring hazardous wintry precipitation. Despite cool weekend temperatures, it won’t quite be cold enough for snow or ice locally. The Virginias and northwestern North Carolina could see some, though.

- It won’t likely produce severe storms. Temperatures won’t likely get warm enough to produce the surface instability needed for severe storms or embedded thunder whatsoever!

- Just a reminder! You can catch a forecast honed for your exact location on your free WECT Weather App. The forecast shown here is specifically for our Wilmington Metro zone.
