SQUAT CHALLENGE: Blair Elementary squashes competition
Trainer LaMaine Williams shows Blair Elementary School students how to do a proper squat.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The students at Blair Elementary School have earned some bragging rights. They were squashing the competition in a squat challenge on Friday.

WECT’s Frances Weller and personal trainer LaMaine Williams initiated the challenge with Blair. By noon, the number of squats posted on the squat challenge Facebook page in support of #TeamBlair far surpassed the Weller and Williams team, #frances&lamaine.

“The day is not over yet,” Williams said. “We’ll keep trying but the Bulldogs are going hard.”

Williams, Encore Magazine’s best personal trainer winner for the past 10 years, is known for his competitiveness. Heather Layton, a teacher at Blair, knows that well. She’s one of Williams’ clients.

On Friday, however, she was confident Williams met his match with the students at Blair.

"What can I say except go Blair Bulldogs and hashtag Team Blair,” Layton said with a laugh.

Williams held a squat session at Blair on Friday afternoon. He was joined by Solomon Harvey, a former contestant on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and Miss North Carolina Collegiate.
