WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Are you ready? We’re 24 hours away from the Get Fit with 6 Race and Wellness Expo. This morning, we’re getting a look at the course for both the 5K and the one-mile fun run and walk taking place Saturday afternoon.
The course was laid out by Colin Hackman, a familiar face to WECT viewers. Hackman is also the president of Go-Time Race Management and his team will be logging the times of its participants. Some runners have never competed before, but they’ll be hitting the pavement as they work toward a more active lifestyle.
The 5K course will commence outside the Coastline Convention Center and head north on Nutt Street before a right turn along Brunswick Street directs runners to North Front Street, past PPD. The course will then navigate participants left onto Cowan Street around the roundabout back to Nutt Street around Sawmill Point Apartments. From here, racers will hop on the Wilmington Riverwalk passing the likes of the Port City Marina and the Wilmington Convention Center and the Embassy Suites, where they will turn around and double back to the starting line.
The one-mile course follows the same starting route. However, participants will turn around at the end of North Front Street and return to the start.
The forecast for race time will feature mostly cloudy skies, a low risk for a light shower and temperatures in the middle and upper 40s. Hackman says it’s good to dress in layers in this kind of weather because as you run, the more you’ll sweat.
