WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A $5,000 donation will be made to Kids Making It, a local after school woodworking program, in honor of Austin Wilson on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
Austin Wilson, a Wilmington native who had been doing woodwork since the age of 12, was selected from hundreds of applicants to appear on the television show ‘This Old House' in 2017. He flew to Boston to be on the show just one day after graduating from New Hanover High School.
Wilson passed away while on the road with the crew in January 2018 at the age of 18.
Wilson had become a mentor for the program Kids Making It, a non-profit group in Wilmington that focuses on teaching children valuable life and vocational skills through the art of woodworking.
A $5,000 donation to the group from Cape Fear Electrical Contractors Association will be made at its location at 617 Castle St in Wilmington at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
Cape Fear Electrical Contractors Association is a new non-profit group that is choosing Kids Making It for its first donation. The money will support Kids Making It’s new Skilled Trades program for older teenagers.
