WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Harper Peterson was sworn in as North Carolina’s new state senator today. The ceremony took place at 1 p.m. at the Bakery 105 location in downtown Wilmington.
Peterson subsequently gave a speech thanking everyone for helping him get to where he is now.
“I’m really impressed and thankful. We share this day with everybody that came. This was a community victory and I’m excited to work and move to Raleigh, work for the citizens of New Hanover County and southeastern North Carolina." said Peterson. "That’s the reason I ran; to present our concerns, our values, and our needs here in the southeastern part of the state.”
Peterson is an advocate for clean water, proper education, and small businesses as he was a businesses owner himself in the past. He also took time to address his concerns of climate change and is hoping to make plans in the future on how to combat the problem.
