WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - More than 100 students at Snipes Elementary School will have new coats this winter courtesy of some local firefighters.
Firefighters with the Wilmington Professional Firefighters Association Local 129 presented the students with the coats Wednesday morning.
“We are proud to know that because of our efforts, and through the generosity of our citizens, over 100 children will go to school this winter with a new warm coat,” said Jeremiah Duncan, Wilmington master firefighter.
“With many families still recovering from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Florence, there are children in our community in desperate need of a warm winter coat. Our children and schools benefit from this program in more ways than one,” added Wilmington Fire Captain Chris Stenerson. “A new coat allows families to stretch limited financial resources to other basic necessities like food and shelter.”
This marks the third year that Wilmington firefighters have partnered with Operation Warm to give away new coats.
