BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - During the 2018 election cycle, the campaign to re-elect James McVicker as Bladen County sheriff paid four parties for “get out the vote” activities.

Two of those — McCrae Dowless and Red Dome Group — are at the center of an election fraud investigation hinging on claims of ballot irregularities in Bladen County and Robeson County. The campaign paid those parties $8,600 and $8,000, respectively.

The third person listed in McVicker’s campaign finance reports, James Singletary, was paid $5,750.

Singletary, who is listed in Bladen County voting records as a Bladenboro resident, signed more than three dozen absentee ballots in Bladen County as a witness. His signature appeared alongside that of Lisa Britt, who has gone on record with other news outlets as working for Dowless.

Bladen County voter Datesha Montgomery identified Britt to a WECT reporter. Montgomery has filed a sworn affidavit saying Britt asked her to hand over her signed, unsealed absentee ballot.

WECT was unable to reach Singletary by phone since all listed phone numbers found by reporters have been disconnected.
