COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Columbus County commissioner Edwin Russ changed parties Monday from Democrat to Republican, saying the 2018 general election factored into his decision.
According to Russ, he didn’t agree with the four protests by Democrats regarding the races, particularly the hotly contested sheriff’s race.
“You vote and whoever wins, wins,” Russ said.
Russ said he thinks it’s wrong to file a formal complaint protesting the election after a candidate wins. Russ also said he is “tired of the way Democrats have been doing things” on a national level, too.
“The changing of my party isn’t going to change the way I do business,” said Russ, who added he was a Democrat since he registered to vote when he was 18 years old.
