WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -Thanks to a Wilmington couple’s generous donation, dozens of children will wake up Christmas morning to brand new bikes.
Draughon and Jennifer Cranford purchased $10,000 worth of bikes Friday during WECT’s Weller’s Wheels drive at Walmart in Monkey Junction.
The Cranford’s say they can appreciate the challenge many local parents face trying to afford Christmas.
“We really want to help out a lot this year due to the hurricane, being in the great need people have this really resonates with Jennifer and I both because it’s a gift not only for the child but also for the whole family.” said Draughon Cranford.
The Cranford’s donation allowed the Salvation Army to add about 135 bikes to the hundreds that will be distributed to families that have applied for assistance.
So far, close to 1,000 bikes have been donated to Weller’s Wheels. The deadline to donate bikes is Monday, Dec. 10.
This is not the Cranford’s first time donating to Weller’s Wheels. This is their fourth year contributing to the annual event.
