WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Hoggard High School football team is not ready for basketball season just yet.
Hoggard hosts Pinecrest in the 4AA state playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday
“(Pinecrest is) a very well coached team and very disciplined team,” said Hoggard head coach Craig Underwood. “They do a very good job in the run game. It’s kind of what they are known for, but they attack the whole field. They force you to make sure you are disciplined on defense.”
Hoggard punched its ticket to the third round after a 38-21 win over Garner. Underwood said he believes the final score didn’t reflect how difficult the victory was for the Vikings.
“We made a lot of mistakes last Friday night,” said Underwood. “We did a lot of great things Friday night. If we continue to build on the great and work to fix the wrong, hopefully, you’ll see a better product on Friday.”
This week, Underwood is preaching to his players that things won’t get any easier the further the Vikings advance in the playoffs.
“We are in the final eight,” said Underwood “It’s only going to get tougher and tougher. Also, that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”
