WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Hurricane Florence may have spoiled plans for the WECT News team to broadcast live from Pleasure Island in September, but we’re going back on the road and plan to spend the day there at the end of the month.
WECT launched the on-location segments, called Highway 6, earlier in the year in which the WECT anchor team leaves the studio and broadcasts morning, midday and evening newscasts live in different locations.
“We felt it was important to visit the communities that we serve and spend some time with viewers, community officials, and business owners in person and in their elements,” says WECT General Manager Mark Mendenhall. “Over the last few years, we’ve done meet and greets throughout the Cape Fear Region, but doing actual live remote broadcasts takes it to a different level. It’s exciting for us and the communities that we will be in.”
So far, the team has been to Surf City and Southport. Now, we’re heading to Pleasure Island Thursday, Nov. 29. We hope to see you there!
