PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Surf City's Town Hall has been condemned and plans are being made to build a new one.

The downstairs area of the building was flooded during Hurricane Florence and stucco was separated from the walls.

“I recommend we not move back in there," Surf City building inspector Steve Padgett said at Wednesday's town council meeting. "There is mold and water intrusion in walls.”

The town hall building sat lower than the buildings around it, leaving it prone to flooding.

"There was already damage before the storm. Now it’s worse,” Padgett said.

Mayor Doug Medlin said the city is working with FEMA on planning for construction of a new town hall.
