WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - It has come to our attention that students at the University of North Carolina Wilmington are getting an education in something we all need to learn. Simply put - they are learning how to give back.
I've always thought that good citizenship should be part of any traditional learning experience. It's good for the community and for the students, and it looks to be alive and well at UNCW.
Even with a full class load, study hours, and part time jobs - UNCW students still managed to volunteer for over 55,000 hours in community service last school year.
They helped young and old - locally, and around the world. The list literally goes on and on and on.
What these students did is so impressive they are now achieving national recognition. UNCW has been placed on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Role. That's a great honor to those students and another reason we should be thankful that UNCW is actively involved in the Cape Fear region.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
