My Turn, Your Turn: Cabinet member taxes

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - I have come to a realization that I just don't have what it takes to be a cabinet member in Washington.

As it turns out, it appears I'm not qualified because I have actually been paying my taxes all these years.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic, and I know every administration starts off with a hiccup or two -but this is ridiculous.  Four of President Obama's high appointments have turned out to have tax problems, and that includes the new secretary of the treasury, the guy who now oversees the IRS.

One of the four was delinquent by $140,000.  He called it an "oversight."  I don't care how much money you have - that kind of money can't be just an oversight.

Is it any wonder we are cynical and distrusting of those inside the beltway trying to decide what to do with our tax money, when we aren't real sure how many of them are paying their fair share like the rest of us.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at

I just know that I work and I am at retirement age my husband is disabled and it is all we can do to pay our taxes, but if we didn't we would be under the jail not going into office and making more money than I ever thought about.  When can we start trusting the ones who are running the country?
