COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Kiwanis Club of Whiteville is collecting coats to be distributed to children in need.

The club is accepting gently used or new coats in children's and junior's sizes from January 16 - February 28.

The coats can be dropped off at all Columbus County and Whiteville City schools.

After the coats are collected, the Columbus County Sheriff's Office will house the coats and deliver them.

"We know New Hanover County does a similar thing and other counties as well," said Sheriff Chris Batten.  "We wanted to do something for the children of Columbus County in the teen and pre-teen years. We are accepting gently used and new coats in the teen area."

Quality cleaners will clean the coats and jackets before they are distributed.
