WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A well-known gated community in Wilmington is being fined for cutting down trees.

The city cited Landfall for chopping down four trees located on Signature Place, a street in the neighborhood.

Now, the community is being fined close to $2,500.

A City of Wilmington ordinance says that the city must approve any tree that is going to be cut down.

This is not the first time a Wilmington housing community has been fined.  January 2008, the Crosswinds Apartment Complex was fined $48,000 for cutting down 231 trees.
