WIMLINGTON, NC (WECT) - A week long celebration of the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. will begin Thursday, Jan. 15.

According to organizers there will be gospel concerts, a fun day at the MLK Center, and a parade on Monday, which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

This year there are 130 participants in the parade.  It starts at Noon on 5th and Castle Streets.

"This is the largest celebration in southeastern North Carolina," said organizer Hollis Briggs.

The MLK events end with a free lecture from the country's only African-American astronaut at UNCW January 22.
