WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - More than 4,000 motorists were cited for DWI's during the holiday Booze it and Lose It campaign.
The campaign, which ran from Dec. 1, 2008 through Jan. 4, 2009, yielded 155,067 traffic and criminal citations statewide.
Officers conducted nearly 16,000 sobriety checkpoints and dedicated patrols. According to the Governor's Highway Safety Program, officers issued more than 50,000 speeding violations, and 3,335 drug charges. In addition, they apprehended 1,128 fugitives and recovered 212 stolen vehicles.
