KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - A Wilmington judge has ordered state regulators to reconsider their decision to do away with sandbags at The Riggings condo complex in Kure Beach, according to the Star News.

Sandbags are not allowed along the North Carolina coast, but The Riggings was given a special permit in 1985 to help them against eroding shorelines.

In 2006, the state decided the sandbags must be removed, because they lost patience with homeowners failing to find a long term solution to replace the sandbags.

But, Judge Jay Hockenbury told the Star News the conditions that prompted The Riggings to seek sandbags in the first place haven't changed.

A final decision could take several weeks.
