WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A recent "My Turn" on a state plan to tax motorists for every mile they drive got a lot of attention - almost all of it showing how much people despise state government.
Like Timothy, who said:
"You would think that even the rich folks and politicians would understand that they have almost broken the back of the middle class."
"It's just a shame they're trying to squeeze more money out of us when we're already scraping pennies out of the gutter to pay what's absolutely necessary to survive."
And Susie wrote:
"This fee for driving is stupid. Get real. Are they trying to get people NOT to go to businesses, NOT to go to the shopping centers, NOT to visit the museums, NOT to drive out of the towns they live in?"
And finally this one from Glenn:
"You are disillusioned if you think the politicians in Raleigh care about the average tax payer. They can't see past their own wallets. The folks in Raleigh will have their way."
A friend here at the station said you can't go wrong being against higher taxes and fees. He's right.

Several months ago my wife and I moved here from Florida. We have come to realize that the cost of living is higher here. Florida has no state income tax to come out of your pay check. No personal property tax. No tax on food. And on your property tax (real estate) you can claim $25,000 homestead exemption. I have found websites that shows this to be true, the cost of living is higher here in North Carolina. If Raleigh does pass such a ridiculas tax- it's goodbye Brunswick County as we are headed south.
