LELAND, NC (WECT) - Over 100 new trees will be planted around New Hanover and Brunswick Counties.
The Southport Live Oak Tree Society bought all the trees from a nursery that is going out of business.
Now, volunteers will start planting the live oak trees at the entrances to Wilmington, Leland and Southport.
The tree society's founder, Doctor Cary McEntire, said it's important to welcome people to our area by going green.
"It could be improved so profoundly by the planting of live oak trees, as can almost any Southern city," said McEntire. "They are the hallmark, the representative tree of the south."
