Wilmington, NC (WECT) - Nearly 3,000 Wilmington residents had to deal with a power outage on Friday evening.
The lights went out around 5:30 PM all around the Independence Mall area.
Police Officers were forced to direct traffic at dark intersections, moving people away from the affected roadways and trying to keep drivers calm.
"I was on my way back and the lights were all out and the power on the streetlights. So, I was a little nervous driving and I sat at the thing trying to turn for about ten minutes," explains motorist Jessica Marva.
For most of the area the power failure lasted less than an hour and all residents regained electricity by 8:30 PM.
Progress Energy says it began with a conductor failure.
