PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - After years of waiting, students at Topsail High have a new two-story building to call their own.

January 5, the bell will ring for the first time at the brand new facility.

"I feel so lucky," said junior Madison Hatch.  "First I thought, the seniors, that's so great.  They get to be the first graduating class.  That's historic.  I'm really excited I get to spend all next year here."

Friday, January 2, students, parents, and faculty members filled the gymnasium for a ribbon cutting and an open house.  It was the first time many of them got to see the inside of the new school.

"I'm just kind of in awe being the principal here," said Marcus Skipper. "My first year at this high school, just being able to serve the parents, students, and community members of the Topsail High learning community and to unveil this new learning facility is incredible."

After the ceremony, teachers like Penny Luft began preparing for Monday by unloading supplies in their new classrooms.

Students said the new environment will help them improve their studies.  After a long winter break, the new school should help them get back into the swing of things.
