Wilmington, NC (WECT) - Ringing in the New Year means getting in shape for many and that results in lots of new memberships at fitness centers.
One Wilmington Gold's Gym has already seen more people signing up for memberships.
"Januarys are very busy. They're probably our busiest month with all the New Year's resolutions we get a lot of traffic coming in and out," explains Gold's Gym fitness consultant Joe Valentino.
But trainers say the rush doesn't last long because people get burnt out trying to do too much, too fast.
Physique Designs Trainer Jolynn Elam has advice for those who tend to throw in the towel early.
Elam says "The best way is just to take it one step at a time. Usually the people who come in and try to start a diet, begin an exercise program, and to quit smoking. All those things at one time, usually last about two weeks."
