WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Being the first person born in a new year is always a special occasion.
At New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Noah Eckert was the first baby to join 2009.
He was born to Ayumi and Chris Eckert of Onslow County around 4:00 Thursday morning, weighing 6 lbs. 1 oz.
Noah was born prematurely and is currently in stable condition at the neonatal intensive care unit.
Chris said it didn't come as a shock that his son was born on New Year's.
"He was supposed to be due on the 31st of January, but a week ago, she said it was going to be a New Year's baby," said Chris. "I was like, it's too early, it's too early! She said, 'I'm telling you it's going to come.' And sure enough it came on New Year's."
Three other babies were born at the Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital on New Year's.
