My Turn, Your Turn: Reflecting on 2008

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Rarely have we been more anxious to say good-bye to a year.

2008 - by most standards of measure - has not been a very good year. But with all the gloom and doom, let's think of what we've gained.

This is the year we learned how to be frugal - how to get by with less.

This is the year some of us learned how tough we are.  I'm talking about the kind of toughness where you can lose virtually everything except that foundation that's deep inside us all.  Only to discover that's all you really needed.

Like the fish in "Finding Nemo," this is the year we also learned that the key to life is to just keep swimming - to keep going - to keep believing that a better day is right around the corner.

And this year many of us learned who we can count on.  It's a painful lesson because it attacks our pride to ask for help.  But it's also a measure of how much we're loved.

Come to think of it, maybe 2008 hasn't been a bad year after all.  But I still want to wish you a happier new year!

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at
