Attempted armed bank robbery off Market Street in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an attempted armed bank robbery just after noon Monday afternoon.

Deputies and K-9 teams are at the Carolina First Bank in the 7300 block of Market Street.

Sheriff's deputies said the alarm company notified them that there was an attempted armed robbery at the bank.

According to deputies, a white male entered the bank and asked a clerk for money, then left the bank empty handed.

Detectives are still conducting their investigating at this hour and no further information is available.

"We'll continue to collect statements from witnesses, people that are in the area, and business owners. They may have saw something. If you have and think it will help, contact the sheriff's office," said Charles Smith with the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office.

The robber is described as a white male in his mid 30's with brown hair standing approximately 5'8"-5'10" tall.  He was wearing a dark blue jacket, a brown "booney" hat, and glasses.
