Cumberland County man faces charges for death of a man found lying in a ditch on Christmas

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A State Medical Examiner's report has determined blunt force trauma to the head is the cause of death for a Cumberland County man. 

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, 48-year-old Dale Freeman Meredith of Hope Mills, was found seriously injured lying in a ditch on Christmas.  He died later that day after being transported to hospitals in Chapel Hill

26-year-old Antonio Lamont Jones of Hope Mills is facing charges in connection to Meredith's death. 

Jones made his first court appearance Dec. 29 on charges of first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, and armed robbery.
