WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -- Local law enforcement and businesses are teaming up to crack down on holiday shoplifters.

Best Buy employees are working with the Wilmington Police Department to deter people from stealing.  It's part of the holiday 2008 operational plan.

Employees who are part of a loss prevention team will monitor customers.  They'll try to catch them in the act of unwrapping small things like CD's or DVD's or simply trying to walk out the door with larger items.

Authorities hope this teamwork will prevent people from stealing even during a tough economy.

"Just overall behavior, looking around for cameras, looking down at the items, playing with the wrapper, all those tell tale signs," said Scott Levine with Best Buy.  "Because of the amount of people we have coming in and out of our building we try to look at those signs at the door right when they are coming in."

The holiday 2008 operational plan will be in place until the end of the year.
