New Hanover County Deputy injured in foot race

WIMLINGTON, NC (WECT) - A New Hanover County Deputy suffered injuries during a foot chase early Tuesday afternoon.

40-year-old Robert Bernard King has two outstanding child support warrants.  Deputy A.B. Freeman saw King in the area of 12th and Castle Streets and intended to apprehend King.

Before any contact was made, King fled on foot.  During the foot chase Deputy Freeman suffered an injury to his knee and was transported to Cape Fear Memorial Hospital.

He is scheduled to be released from the hospital later Tuesday afternoon.

Back up from the Sheriff's Office and the Wilmington Police Department assisted, but have not located King.

Criminal charges are pending for resisting arrest.
