WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - There are over 500 sexual predators in the Wilmington area, and local parole detectives are responsible for keeping an eye on every sexual predator.

It is easy for a repeat offender to find a new victim with schools and parks just around the block.

North Carolina lawmakers are trying to make it more difficult for sexual predators to be repeat offenders with the Jessica Lunsford Act.

With the act, predators face tougher penalties and closer supervision in efforts to keep your children safer.

WECT's investigative reporter Casey Roman has an eye opening series of reports on new laws and technology aimed at keeping kids safe.

Tuesday night on WECT News at 6 and 11, Casey will introduce you to a Wilmington mother whose daughter was molested by a repeat offender at a community event for kids at a city park.

Casey teamed up with the Department of Community Corrections to test a high tech satellite operation that monitors sexual predators.  Learn the results to the test Wednesday on WECT News at 6 and 11.
