WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Some little heads will be warm this winter thanks to the work of several senior citizens.
35 volunteers have donated over 45-thousand hours this year as part of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program in Wilmington.
The program has been running for 30 years with volunteers knitting hats and stockings for new borns.
Each hat ends up on the head of a baby born in December at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
"It helps out and make us feel good. Gives us something to do and someone to talk to. It is a win-win situation all the way around," said volunteer Delores Pickett.
The final batch of hats will head to the hospital December 22.
