WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Sunday marked the 67 anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks.
The World War II Wilmington Homefront Heritage Coalition sponsored an event at the Pearl Harbor Survival Memorial in Battleship Park Sunday afternoon.
Several local Pearl Harbor survivors, civilian witnesses, family and friends gathered in Battleship Park to commemorate the anniversary. Several government officials were also there, including congressman Mike Mcintyre.
At the end of the ceremony, a wreath was placed next to the Pearl Harbor memorial statue that stands in the park.
"It's important to not remember us but remember those who didn't make it or those who haven't made it over the years. We lost two this past year," says Bud Hollenbeck a Pearl Harbor Survivor.
For many people who attended the ceremony was a way of remembering and honoring those who died in World War II and other wars.
