My Turn, Your Turn: Being Thankful

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - I'm guessing there are a lot of us finding it more difficult to be thankful this year, but I contend you can always find something to be thankful for.

If you can't pay your bills, you can be thankful you are not one of your creditors.

You can be thankful that only you and God know the real you.

You can be thankful for doors of opportunity and for friends who oil the hinges.

If you think you are getting too much government, then you can be thankful you are not getting as much as you are paying for.

If you don't have everything you want, then be thankful for the things you don't have that you don't want.

Be thankful that there aren't twice as many members of congress and only half as many doctors.

Be thankful that our teenagers will ultimately have children of their own who will grow up to become teenagers.

Be thankful that you are not a turkey this week.

Be thankful that hugs and kisses - the real kind - not the Hershey's Chocolate kind - don't add weight or cause cancer.

And at the end of one of those days when the kids have driven you up the wall, and you have wanted to throttle them, be thankful you didn't and that they are finally in bed.

I think we can be thankful.  It takes a thankful heart and thankful spirit and maybe a little different look at a tough situation.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn -to be thankful I hope.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at

I agree with you we all have many things to be thankful for,but in my opinion you completely avoided the major ones. I guess you have to be politically correct in your position, but I just have to be satisfied in my soul. Here is my list of things we all can be thankful for: being an American, there's plenty wrong in the USA, but it is still the best country in the world; the love of Jesus, He loved us enough to die for us,regardless of our sins; the love of family-trust me sometimes mine drives me crazy, but I love each and every one of them with all my heart. that's the three major ones, but I can list a hundred or more things that I'm thankful for. God bless you.
