My Turn, Your Turn: Campaigning

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - We made it to the finish line.  After two long years, the campaigning is finally over.

That leaves us with one thing Democrats and Republicans can both agree on - we've had our fill of politics for awhile!

In the last month or so, I've heard from a lot of people who've had it with all the campaign commercials - especially the negative attack ads.

For the television business these ads are important. Yes we make money from them.  But the truth is, I am glad they're over too.

Wouldn't you like to vote in an election where you vote FOR candidates - not against them?

Wouldn't you like it if politicians were more concerned with telling you what they want to do, as opposed to telling us how horrible their opponents are?

Wouldn't you like to see a candidate run a truly positive campaign?

Many claimed they'd try to do that this year - only to show their true colors in the next commercial break.

We still voted - - and in record numbers.  But aren't you a little embarrassed by it all?  Me too - and I think we deserve better.  Maybe we'll get a little respect in the next election.

A guy can dream can't he?

Viewer's Response:

I couldn't agree with you more on negative ads.  I think someone should start a group refusing to vote for the first person who uses a negative ad.  I think you should be able to stand on your record or either tell the people what you plan to do.  This is really disgusting to me.  Elizabeth Dole stooped the lowest in my opinion and I think in the end it cost her the election.  Maybe she and some others can learn from this.  Hoping the next time around, things will be better.

Sincerely,
Janice M. Evans
