My Turn, Your Turn: Voting

WIMLINGTON, NC (WECT) - In a normal election year this would be a good time to do a commentary urging people to get out and vote, but that doesn't seem necessary this year.

If you've tried to vote early, this is likely what you've experienced - long lines.  According to all the experts this election will set a record for turnout.

Certainly many people are excited about this election and its historic impact.

But there's so much more to this election than just the presidential race.

I haven't voted yet. I'm a bit of a traditionalist.  But the larger reason is I am new here and I am still trying to study and learn all I can about the people running for the other offices on the ballot.

This is my sample ballot.  I've used it enough to put a few wrinkles in it and if you look closely you'll see I've actually spilled coffee on it.  But it is a helpful tool in figuring out who to vote for in such important races as State Senate & House, County Commissioners, School Board and a bunch of judicial races.

It's great to see so many people voting this year.   I just hope we pay attention to the bottom of the ticket, because it is every bit as important as the top.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at
