WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - This upcoming high school graduating class is expected to produce more college bound students any class in American history.

So many students are planning to continue their education that many of them will be denied a shot at college because there simply isn't enough room.

Did you know that last year Cape Fear Community College had to turn down a thousand students?   Well you can do something about that.

This year's ballot includes a bond resolution that would fund construction for three new buildings on the Cape Fear campuses - each providing additional classrooms and laboratories.

This needs to pass - and pass big.  It needs to send a loud and clear message that we really care about education.

Certainly it's good for our local economy.  When businesses consider moving to our area they need a college that can provide customized training.

Cape Fear has a track record of doing that - and that's why this ballot measure means jobs for the greater Wilmington area.

But  that's not the main reason I favor a yes vote.  I firmly believe no eligible student should ever be told there's no room for their dream of an education and a shot at a better future.  Think about that and I know you'll make the right choice.

That's my turn.  Now it's your turn.  To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at
