WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Last week I complained about partisanship in Washington. And as expected, I heard a lot of "amens" from our viewers. But I was actually surprised that one viewer feels our nation is best served by partisanship.
Margaret wrote, "Partisanship is a good thing! Our form of government is by design, adversarial. The two sides get to have their say and then you vote. This is after all: America!"
Well I understand the "have your say and vote part" of what Margaret is describing. But who is really listening before the vote? And what's the use if you if you are just voting with the group instead of looking for the best solution? Partisanship gets in the way of alternative opinions and better ideas. And it does not get us to the best solutions for our problems.
To the "amen choir" who are sick of all - they want solutions. And most of them think it's time for term limits in Washington. Me too! I think it's time to return to the days of a legislature made up of average citizens - not just professional politicians.
That's some of your turn and a little of my turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
